Our Signature Spice Bag

Taphouse Sydney’s Signature Spice Bag

Learn more about the Chinese-Irish fusion dish that has taken Sydney by storm!

The Spice Bag is a delicious combination of golden chips, tender salt and pepper chicken, and stir-fried veggies, all tossed in a mysterious blend of spices. What ties the dish together is the generous drizzle of curry sauce, and at Taphouse, we’ve put our own spin on it!

The History

This iconic dish first appeared in Ireland in 2010. Diving into the origins of the Spice Bag, our Head Chef Sam Ng found that it was created out of necessity by Chinese immigrants who arrived in the late 70’s, craving a taste of home. The fusion dish is now a unique creation that is well-loved by the Irish population. In fact, it was voted as the favourite takeaway dish in 2020, with a petition for the government to declare a National Spice Bag Day!

Taphouse’s Signature Spice Bag

We’ve put our own spin on this modern classic at Taphouse and it’s finger-licking good (if we do say so ourselves). Chef Sam dreamed up a version that’s as if the Spice Bag went on a holiday to Hong Kong and came back with some new tricks. We’re talking wok-fried veggies, tender chicken, and our top-secret house-made curry sauce.

So, next time you’re in, give our Spice Bag a go and get ready to join the fan club. For an all-round experience, join us every Sunday for Sunday Shenanigans where we’re serving up an Irish-Chinese feast, $12 Guinness and more!
